MI School Story is a statewide digital storytelling initiative created in partnership with the Mosaic Film Experience and the Steelcase Foundation. The project highlights authentic narratives that celebrate the pride, belonging, and impact that public education provides students and families across Michigan.

MI School Story invites real Michigan public school students, educators, parents and community members to answer one simple question:
“What’s your powerful public school story?”
We’re asking Michigan students, educators, parents and community members to share the impact public education has had on their lives.
Get Started
Themes
Access
Sports, arts and music education, clubs, or extracurricular activities.
Example: “Being part of my school’s soccer team has taught me how to build community and work together.”
Achievement
College preparation, first-generation success, dual enrollment, favorite classes, or AP/IB opportunities.
Example: “I’m a first-generation student, and my school’s free dual-enrollment program allows me to earn my associate’s degree before graduating high school.”
Community
After-school programs, childcare, health clinics, food programs, volunteering, or school events.
Example: “Volunteering at my school’s annual blood drive helped me discover my interest in pursuing a career in healthcare.”

Through short videos and written stories that share how public schools have impacted lives, we’ll create a growing collection of stories from classrooms and communities across the State.
As these stories grow, they form a living digital archive of Michigan voices. They document the opportunities, support systems, and communities that public schools make possible. Helping educators, advocates, and communities tell a fuller story about the impact of public education.
